We often think of energy drain as something physical—too little sleep, too many demands, or not enough coffee. But some of the biggest energy leaks are emotional.
And the sneakiest one of all: avoidance.
Avoidance isn’t always about running from something big and dramatic.
More often, it’s subtle:
Not responding to that email because you’re afraid of disappointing someone.
Saying “I’m fine” when you’re not—and burying your truth under busyness.
Delaying a decision because making the right one feels too high-stakes.
Staying distracted all day to avoid the discomfort of being still.
Avoidance can wear many masks—procrastination, perfectionism, overworking, numbing, overthinking.
But underneath them all is the same energy: resistance to feeling.
You might think avoiding something will help you conserve energy.
But in reality, it creates a low-grade hum of anxiety, disconnection, and tension—day after day.
It keeps your nervous system on alert and your mind in overdrive.
It clogs your emotional bandwidth and steals your mental clarity.
And the longer you avoid something, the heavier it becomes.
Not because the task or truth is getting bigger—
But because carrying the weight of resistance is draining.
Avoidance feels familiar, masking itself as safe, but it drains you.
But there is no safety in darkness. Once you shed light on it, start being honest with yourself, things move.
You’re not required to fix it all today.
But seeing it for what it is opens the door to change, alchemy, and progress.
And bringing it into awareness is the first and often most powerful step.
Try this:
Notice where you feel tension.
Is there something you’ve been avoiding emotionally, mentally, or relationally?
Name what you’re avoiding—without judgment.
Just say it out loud or write it down. Bring it into the light.
Ask: What would honesty look like right now?
It might be a deep breath. A hard conversation. A 10-minute task you’ve been putting off. A moment of stillness.
Whatever it is—meet it with compassion, understanding, and courage.
You don’t need to hustle for clarity.
You just need to stop leaking energy into fear, delay, or false urgency.
And often, that starts with a single honest moment.
